EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

CDP is a project that has its roots from Jesus disciple Centre ministries, having its location in Kampala Uganda This church started way back in 2010 with the vision based on Jesus last command to his disciples and thus to disciple all the nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, the CDP was developed as part of the church program of impacting on people’s physical needs and thus their spiritual needs. This program is hoped to develop and empower orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCS), Street children and the needy children in the marginalsed urban settings and later the rural villages of Uganda through the provision of basic education skills that is Primary Level Education and later Vocational and Secondary Education Health, Food social and psychological care among others . It is also hoped that this program shall impact, improve and transform the spiritual and moral standards together with economic wellbeing and values of the community around. We therefore, take faith in the Lord in the process of achieving this desired transformation and empowering mostly important the future generation of young man and women with the educational skills together with the spiritual values.

It is hoped that this program shall be a blessing to many families suffering in the injustice of ignorance amidst awareness all over the world it shall be an opportunity for such families in future to fight poverty and all other injustices that come along with poverty such as vulnerability, powerless, isolation and ignorance. We are currently sponsoring 40 children in the Primary Level Education at the Church managed school. However the program desires to help and increase this number to at least 1,000 Children and beyond by 2023

Under this program we believe that attending to peoples physical and moral needs through education shall be a path way for the spiritual transformation. This is because it has been observed that physical moral needs can be a hindrance to spiritual growth. Therefore, it is hoped that through such initiatives we shall have a nation of God citizen being a nation that puts God first considering our National motto “For God and my Country”.

The organization is church based, child focused, Christ centered and committed to integrity. It is destined to supporting the neediest of the needy children.

The project became operational in January 2014, with a total of 10 Children within the age bracket of 3-9 registered.

OUR OUTCOMES ARE AS FOLLOWS

The project desires that, Children should be equipped to become God fearing citizens, have knowledge of God’s words; understand the nature of God and his attributes. As time goes on, the children should be able to embrace salvation voluntarily, confess Jesus as Lord and savior; grow in faith and continue to practice spiritual discipline such as prayers, fellowship, Bible study and service to the community. They should then become the custodians and implementers of spiritual values such as love, forgiveness and self-acceptance. In this respect, activities such as devotions, spiritual conferences, training of volunteers, community service, and worship are planned and budgeted for.

In conformity to the Millennium Development Goal number 2 “Achieve Universal Primary Education”, all efforts should be exerted to enable the child to be able to perceive, think and gain understanding of his/her world through the interaction and influence of genetic and learnt behaviors. In this respect all registered children shall be facilitated to begin pre- and primary school education so as to acquire knowledge and enhance his/her skills through formal education and later on livelihood skills training. The children will be helped to acquire skills training. The children will be helped to acquire skills and productive minds in order to become self-reliant in future. Plans such as payment of school fees, purchase of certain uniforms, livelihood skills training and mind searching games has been put in place to ease the implementation of this project.

The project seeks to guide children and help them develop the ability to interact with one another in a reciprocal way; be able to have knowledge for concern for self and others, take time to make responsible decisions becoming resilient and having self-worth. The paramount objective therefore is to equip the child with knowledge, skills positive attitudes and personal development practices so that they can help themselves and their peers to live acceptable lives in the community. Plans such as purchases of play materials, training one social skills and children camps together with some exposure to one another have also been put in place.

In line with the Millennium Development Goal number 6 “Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other Diseases” the plan and budget further seeks to mitigate the effects and impacts of HIV/AIDS in this locality through HIV Funds. Issues like routine counseling and testing (RCT), food supplementation, training of caregivers in different health topics and initiation of income Generating Activities is included in the budget.

The project also hopes to write proposals for complementary intervention; however a project has been made for items such as construction of a school and orphanage home, care and support, children’s justice among others. Overhead costs have been grouped in administration and transportation which basically include the staff salaries, transport for various activities, some staff development training/capacity building are included under this code.

Every initiative and effort in this plans and budgets have been done bearing in mind the long term impact on the child, caregivers and the community at large, but above all the children grow up and become fulfilled Christian adults who will impact on the communities they live in.

SCOPE OF INPUT

For purposes of team work and involvement of all stake holders, several meetings were held in order to gather the needs of the people and the gaps that existed which needed to be addressed. This involved meetings with the children, followed by the meetings with the caregivers and joint planning and budgeting meetings by staff and Church Committee members held on  various occasions. It is our joy that all stake holders worked tirelessly and collectively to produce this piece of work and we want to believe for its success.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM {C.D.P} 

     BACKGROUND HISTORY

Therefore child development program Intends to extend its partnership with jointly implementing a community transformation project that targets empowerment of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and their households through CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM {CDP}. In one of the project assessment that was implement in central and eastern Uganda based on OVC assessment results that was conducted under the sunrise score project supported by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development. We have chosen this project as a means of reaching the community, creating a rapport, and transforming their lives because biblically, a good religion has to care for orphans and Vulnerable Children [OVC]. This will also support our Evangelistic gospel work and as well strengthen our Home Cell Ministry since we are a Community Cell Based Church and we want the community to receive eternal life by accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

The church s inadequately served with health facilities which are ill-equipped with drugs ad personnel. The region is also characterized by high prevalence of HIV/AIDS. Government records indicate the existence of over 10,000 clinical cases with many other cases which have not been reported to medical authorities. Central and eastern Uganda are ranked one of the most regions in terms of HIV/AIDS prevalence. On the same note, the area has high malaria prevalence which affects the general health of the population. The illiteracy rate especially among women cannot be overlooked and it is also the contribution factor of a high level of poverty in sub-region where most families live below the expected 1 US$ per day.

Economically 80% of the people living in rural areas engage in peasantry farming as their main source of livelihood. Households generally use hand tools and occasionally and small business to help them run the family on daily basis. And there is a lot of abduction of children, torture, killings, family disintegration and displacement of local population; this led to increased number of orphans and vulnerable children, prostitution in the area is rampant. The infrastructure of the church has mainly roads. Communication network include MTN, UTL, AIRTEL and ORANGE.

ASSUMPTIONS

As the plan is made, it is assumed that;

• The project will receive support in all forms, materials, encouragement.
• The project management will be visionary and supportive all the time.
• That the caregivers will remain committed ad cooperative to the church.
• That there will be team work among the staff and other church committee members.
• Successful proposal will be funded under complementary interventions.
• Planed and budgets will be flowing normally.
• That there will be community support and participation.

Child development program is designed to nature, disciple and equip the children holistically into responsible Christian adults who will in turn impact their communities.

 PROJECT GOAL

To raise a self sustaining and empowered OVC through ALPHA Schools, child wellbeing and a transformed community by December 2023.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE

Holistic intervention into the lives of children to gradually transform them into potential adults through education, health care, psycho-social support, spiritual, economic and social support

Specific objective

• To equip 1,000 children with knowledge and skills to achieve proper physical growth and development for long life satisfaction by December 2023
• To create a conducive environment for 1,000 children that enable individual interaction with self, each other and the community effectively in their livelihood.
• To facilitate the cognitive development of 1,000 children through formal and informal education, including skills development, help them develop positive attitudes towards learning and meaningful preparation for the next stage of their lives by December 2023.
• To help 600 Children relate educational choices/programs with career/vocational decision making by 2021.
• To promote care and support ministries for 500 house holds affected and infected by HIV/AIDS by December 2023.
• To build a capacity of the 500 caregivers to facilitate community development activities in the project area by December 20123

There shall be four kinds/groups that shall benefit directly from this program and they are;

• The orphans and vulnerable children

• The caregivers of the above groups.

All these groups are important and essential components of this project if it is to realize its goal and objectives. It is expected that significant learning will take place for all groups.
