PROJECT NAME: DIVINE INSTITUTE FOR TEACHER TRAINING, KAKOGE – NAKASONGOLA DISTRICT
Project Background
The proposed project, Divine Institute for Teacher Training Kakoge, will be located in Nakasongola District. The institute was originally established by Mr. Rubbi Ajwika in January 2015 as a teacher training institution. Its primary focus has been the training of nursery and primary school teachers.
However, due to increasing levels of unemployment and poverty in the region, the institute intends to expand its academic programs to include vocational and technical courses such as motor vehicle engineering, hairdressing, carpentry and joinery, as well as block laying and concrete practice. This expansion aims to equip individuals—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds who were unable to continue formal education—with practical, hands-on skills for self-employment and improved livelihoods.
In addition to teacher training, the institute seeks to empower trainees with entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to create job opportunities for themselves.
The institute will occupy approximately 18–20 acres of land, providing sufficient space for the construction of adequate infrastructure to support its operations. Planned developments include six main blocks:
- Block 1: Primary Teacher Training
- Block 2: Nursery Teacher Training
- Block 3: Hairdressing Training
- Block 4: Motor Vehicle Mechanics Training
- Block 5: Staff Accommodation
- Block 6: Administration
The institute also aims to increase student enrollment, particularly among learners with disabilities such as the deaf, blind, and physically challenged. These students will be trained in practical skills like hairdressing, carpentry, and motor vehicle mechanics to enhance their productivity and independence.
Currently, the institute operates only during school holidays (December–February, May–June, and August–September). However, the director envisions transitioning to a full-time academic schedule to provide continuous and comprehensive training.

Strengths

Short-Term Plan (August 2017 – August 2019)
The institute plans to expand its infrastructure by constructing additional classrooms in line with the Ministry of Education standards (40–50 students per stream).
Priority will also be given to constructing student accommodation and classrooms to address the current shortage. Presently, some classrooms are used as dormitories due to inadequate housing facilities. Efforts are ongoing to complete the boys’ dormitory.
Long-Term Plan (January 2020 – 2025)
The institute aims to:
- Establish a technical section or introduce technical drawing subjects
- Construct a perimeter wall fence around the institute
- Set up regional coordinating centers to enhance visibility and outreach
- Integrate modern technology in teaching, including computer simulators and online learning platforms
- Develop a web portal for virtual learning, especially during holidays
- Provide laptops to students to enhance digital literacy
- Offer housing facilities for both teaching and non-teaching staff
- Continuously review and refine its strategic plan for sustainable growth
Assumptions
The successful implementation of the project depends on the availability of adequate funding. These funds will be directed toward infrastructure development, enabling the institute to provide affordable, practical education to underprivileged youth in Uganda.
