1.0 Introduction
Kyambogo College School is a reputable educational institution committed to academic excellence, discipline, and holistic student development.
Kyambogo College School is one of Uganda’s traditional secondary schools with a long and rich history dating back to 1954, the institution has grown from a small demonstration school into a fully established “O” and “A” level secondary school.
The school was founded in 1954 as a demonstration Junior Secondary School alongside the Government Teacher Training College (GTC), which had been relocated from Mbarara to Kyambogo Hill. Its primary purpose was to provide a practical teaching environment where tutors and student teachers could conduct demonstration lessons. At its inception, the school operated in a small building with a limited number of students and staff.
In 1965, when the Government Teacher Training College was upgraded to the National Teachers’ College (NTC), the demonstration school continued to serve the institution. During this period, the school expanded its academic scope and was elevated from a junior school to an “O” Level secondary school. The first headmaster of the secondary section was Mr. J. P. Carey, who led a small but growing student population and staff.
By the late 1960s, the school had begun presenting candidates for the East African Examinations Council, marking an important milestone in its academic development. The teaching staff also diversified, with more qualified African teachers joining expatriate educators. In the early 1970s, the school underwent administrative changes and infrastructural development, including the completion of a new school plant. It was during this time that the institution officially adopted the name Kyambogo College School.
The school continued to expand in both enrollment and facilities. By 1972, it had grown to accommodate several streams of students with an increasing number of teachers. In 1974, new leadership under Mr. Gerald L. Lukwago further strengthened the institution. A major milestone was achieved in 1984 when the school was upgraded to offer Advanced Level (“A” Level) education. By then, the student population had exceeded 700, supported by over 40 teaching staff.
Over the years, Kyambogo College School has maintained steady growth, evolving into a government-aided mixed secondary school offering both Ordinary and Advanced level education. It has expanded its curriculum to include a wide range of academic subjects and co-curricular activities such as football, athletics, volleyball, basketball, and other sports.
Today, the school is recognized as one of Uganda’s long-standing “traditional schools,” with over seven decades of existence. It continues to uphold its mission of providing affordable, equitable, and holistic education aimed at producing skilled, responsible, and productive citizens. Its motto, “Duc in Altum” (meaning “Take to the deep”), reflects its commitment to excellence and continuous growth.
The history of Kyambogo College School demonstrates a steady transformation from a small teacher-training demonstration unit into a fully-fledged secondary institution. Its development mirrors the broader evolution of Uganda’s education system, highlighting the importance of teacher training, academic excellence, and institutional resilience.
As part of its co-curricular activities, the school has established a football team that actively participates in inter-school competitions and talent development programs.
The purpose of this proposal is to seek strategic sponsorship and partnership support for the Kyambogo College School Football Team and the Old Students’ Football League. This initiative aims to promote sports excellence, nurture young talent, and strengthen unity among both current students and over 2,000 alumni connected to the institution. Through this proposal, we present an opportunity for sponsors to contribute towards the development of football activities, improvement of facilities, and organization of structured competitions while gaining meaningful brand visibility and fulfilling corporate social responsibility objectives. Ultimately, the proposal seeks to establish mutually beneficial partnerships that will enhance youth empowerment, alumni engagement, and the long-term growth of Kyambogo College School as a center of excellence in both academics and sports.
2.0 Background
Kyambogo College School, one of Uganda’s long-established government-aided secondary schools, has consistently promoted holistic education through both academic excellence and co-curricular development. Among its most outstanding co-curricular activities is football, which has grown into a strong pillar of talent development, discipline, and institutional pride. The school actively participates in competitions organized under the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), where its football team has consistently demonstrated strong performance, teamwork, and competitiveness at district and national levels.
Building on this strong football culture, Kyambogo College School introduced an innovative initiative known as the Kyambogo College School Old Students’ Football League. This idea was conceived in 2023 with the primary aim of creating a platform that brings together former students of the institution through sports. Recognizing that Kyambogo College School has produced a large number of successful alumni working across diverse professional fields, the league was designed to reconnect these individuals, foster networking, and strengthen unity among them. Currently the league has 16 teams who compete against one another and each team consists of 8-members and currently has 128 members registered in it.
The Old Students’ Football League is inclusive, involving both male and female participants, and has quickly grown into a vibrant and impactful initiative. To date, the league has attracted more than 2,000 Kyambogo College School old students but those who have registered to it are only sofar only 128 and there is hope of more registering, making it one of the most engaging alumni-driven sports programs associated with a secondary school in Uganda. Through regular matches and organized competitions, the league provides an opportunity for alumni to interact, build relationships, and support one another both socially and professionally.
In addition to promoting unity, the initiative also serves as a bridge between past and present students. It inspires current learners by exposing them to successful role models from the same institution, while at the same time creating a strong support network that can contribute to the school’s growth. The league has therefore become more than just a sporting activity—it is a platform for mentorship, community building, and institutional development.
Despite its success and rapid growth, the Kyambogo College School Football Team and Old Students’ League face challenges such as limited funding, inadequate sports equipment, and the need for better organization and facilities, with strategic sponsorship, the initiative has the potential to expand further, enhance its impact, and position itself as a leading model for alumni engagement through sports in Uganda.
Sponsoring the Kyambogo College School Football Team and its Old Students’ League offers a unique opportunity for partners to associate with a reputable institution, gain visibility among a wide and diverse audience, and contribute to youth development and community cohesion.
