2. Introduction
Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to the body’s inability to produce or effectively use insulin. It has become a major global public health concern, particularly Type 2 Diabetes, which accounts for the majority of diabetes cases worldwide.
In developing countries, including Uganda, the burden of diabetes is rapidly increasing due to urbanization, lifestyle changes, poor dietary habits, and reduced physical activity. Despite this growing trend, awareness, early diagnosis, and proper management remain inadequate, especially in rural areas.
3. Problem Statement
The prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes is rising steadily, yet many individuals remain undiagnosed or poorly managed. Limited access to healthcare services, lack of awareness, and insufficient preventive strategies contribute to increased complications such as cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure, and vision loss. There is a need to better understand the risk factors, prevalence, and management practices of diabetes to inform effective interventions.
